drone filming
NOV 3-4, 2022
DOWNTOWN NASHVILLE & SADDLEWOOD FARMS

BACKGROUND

Erica and Dani, who are the lead videographers for Bastion, reached out to see if I was available to film drone work for one of their weddings in Downtown Nashville.

Having worked before multiple times with both of them on weddings in Nashville, I of course said yes. They are so nice to work with and I love their attention to detail, creative vision and work ethic.

I used a DJI Air2S for all of my filming work. Delivered all project files in raw DLOG, exposed using custom settings on site. Any footage on my own portfolio has been color graded by me.

notes

When filming weddings, especially with a drone, I want to pay close attention to the timeline, how the bride/groom are feeling, and of course where the sun is at in relation to the main venue locations/buildings.

For this project, I was lucky enough to have worked at Saddlewood Farms multiple times before so I knew the layout really well. The shots of Downtown Nashville were a little trickier as shooting drone in a city always has obstacles from birds, helicopters, airplanes, police, hospitals, jails…honestly everything you can imagine.

I always bring six batteries though, three for main light and three for sunset. I map out my locations, arrive 30-45 min earlier than needed and pick the stationary points where I’ll be when flying in order to not lose signal and have a safe launch point.

Everything worked out great. Check out some of the shots below.

Below is a short reel of some of my favorite drone shots I got between the two shoot days for this project.

disclaimer

The clients and wedding were entirely Bastion Wedding Films’. I was hired as a drone operator/3rd camera for the course of two days.

Check out Bastion Films below. They rock.
